Start, schedule or join a meeting

Meet's home page gives you three ways to begin and one box to join. This lesson walks through each of them.

Start or make a link with New meeting

Click New meeting. The menu has three choices:

The New meeting menu open, showing Start a meeting now, Create a link for later and Schedule in Calendar
  • Start a meeting now makes a meeting and takes you to its lobby.
  • Create a link for later makes a meeting and copies its link. You'll see Meeting link copied. Paste the link into an email or a chat and start the call whenever you're ready.
  • Schedule in Calendar opens a new Calendar event. The lesson on scheduling covers this one.

Join with a code or a link

Next to New meeting is a box that says Code or link to join. Type a code such as sdj-iabr-ana, or paste a whole meeting link, and the button beside it changes from Meet now to Join. Press it to open that meeting's lobby.

Coming up

The right side of the page shows meetings from your calendar for the next seven days that have a video link. Each row shows the title, the time and how many people are invited. Press Join to open the meeting. When a meeting is about to start, its icon and Join button turn red.

Your meeting links

Below that, Your meeting links lists the meeting links you and your team have made, for a week. Each row has its code, a copy button (Copy link) and Join. If people are in a call right now, the row shows a green in call count.

Other ways to start a meeting

  • The New button at the top of any Workspace app has a Meeting item. It opens a new meeting in a new tab.
  • In Chat, the Meet button at the top of a conversation starts a meeting for that conversation and posts the link in it.
  • Next to Mail, the side panel has a Meet tab with the same join box and today's meetings.
